The mission of the Athletic Department is to promote sportsmanship and to provide the student/athlete organized and structured athletic activities that will help develop social skills, provide a spirit of pride, promote lifetime physical well being, and create a feeling of self worth while maximizing the achievement of educational goals.

Ed Corporal

Ed Corporal, Athletic Director - ecorpora@kcmsd.net
Corporal is responsible for growing and managing the District’s athletic activities, as well as serving as the Chief of the Interscholastic League.  He and his staff oversee the development and promotion of athletic activities and competitions.  Prior to becoming athletic director, Corporal was the Head Coach at Northeast High School in the Interscholastic League.  Corporal brings more than 20 years of experience as a coach and coordinator to his position as athletic director.  He has coached and developed players at the professional, college, and high school levels.  He has served as Commissioner of the 2006 NBA All-Star Legends Fantasy Basketball Camp held at the NBA All-Star Game in Houston, TX.  Corporal has also served as the Head Coach for the ABA Arkansas RiverCatzs and was the Head Assistant Coach for the 2005 ABA World Champions, the Arkansas RimRockers. He has been an associate head coach and assistant coach of three Kansas High School Championship Basketball Teams and one Maryland High School Final Four Team.  As a professional motivational speaker, Coach Corporal offers skills of coaching, mentoring, and leadership to coaches, parents, and students.
 

La-Toya Sheppard La-Toya Sheppard, Athletic Facilitator - lsheppar@kcmsd.net
Sheppard is the point person between schools and the District athletic department, working to ensure each campus has the support needed to field teams and conduct competition. La-Toya has been a District employee since 2002, working as a teacher and parent liaison. The proud graduate of Grambling State University has a master’s degree in sport administration. She has used her expertise and experience to serve District students, as well as the Kansas City Jazz semi-pro football team and the Grambling State athletics programs.
 
Raymond Thompson Raymond Thompson, Athletic Coordinator - rthompson@kcmsd.net
Thompson has held many academic and athletic positions during his 36 years as a dedicated employee of the Kansas City, Missouri School District. Raymond was a mathematics teacher for 30 years, and has served as head coach for basketball, cross country, and track and field, and as an assistant football coach. He also served as athletic director at two high schools. Thompson is a graduate of the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
