The East Bears and head coach Greg Smith got their first win of the football season Thursday night, defeating Olathe Christian at home, 38-12. The Bears (1-3) won behind a strong running game, where they put up five touchdowns on the ground.
“It was a big win for our ballclub and it gives them more confidence going into next week’s game against Hogan Prep,” said Smith. “It’s going to be a tough match-up as they have the best running back in the state.
The other match-up saw the Central Blue Eagles (0-5) lose their fifth game in a row, this time to Ruskin, 32-8.
“Our boys are trying hard and coming off of last week’s performance where we were able to move the ball around, is disappointing,” said head coach Henry Newell.
Other Thursday night action saw the Lincoln Prep Blue Tigers soccer remain winless on the season (0-8) as they lost to Christ Prep, 4-0.
On the hardwood, Lincoln Prep moved to 15-1 on the season as their volleyball team defeated Southeast (3-9) 25-10, 25-11. The Northeast Vikings (6-8) have won three games in a row as they defeated Central (0-15) 25-4, 25-10. And the East Bears moved to 10-7 on the season, beating Westport (2-9), 25-8, 25-12.
