News: Northeast Vikings capture first win in the Interscholastic League’s week two football wrap-up

Title

Northeast Vikings capture first win in the Interscholastic League’s week two football wrap-up

Body

In just two weeks, Northeast Vikings head coach Kimble Anders has already matched his team’s 2008 total in victories with his first career win as a head coach.

His Vikings (1-1) defeated the Westport Tigers (0-2) 12-8 on Friday at Southeast Stadium behind the play of quarterback William Cuffee, who scored two touchdowns (rushing, passing) and had four interceptions on defense in the game. He was chosen Player of the Week for his play by the league and the District.

“I told our players to expect to win and to get used to winning,” said Anders. “I want them to have a mindset on what it feels like to win and to build on what they did, but know that they have a long way to go to continue to get better.”

The Vikings will look to make it two in a row in their next game as they travel to play Christ Prep at Shawnee Mission North, Saturday, September 12, with a 7 p.m. kick-off.

In other action that took place over the weekend, the Central Blue Eagles (0-2) fell to the KCK-Schlagle Stallions, 20-0 Thursday night. Player of the week nominee FS Stephan Irons led the way with nine tackles and a forced fumble for Central.

Friday night saw the Lincoln Prep Blue Tigers (0-2) fall to Smithville, 29-0 and the East Bears (0-1), in their opening game, fall to Rockport, 24-13. There will be no rest for the weary as the Bears return to the football this evening to take on Sumner at Wyandotte at 7 p.m.
