News: Blue Eagles kick off second week of football

Title

Blue Eagles kick off second week of football

Body

The Central Blue Eagles (0-1) will look to get their first win of the season as they begin the second week of play for the Interscholastic League as they face the Schlagle Stallions on at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3. The game will take place at Washington High School in Kansas City, Kan..

“We’re hoping our kids will stay focused and will learn from last week’s (35-0 loss to St. Joe Lafayette) game,” said Central head coach Henry Newell. “We had a good, hard week of practice, so I think our boys will do will.”

One team in the league is guaranteed a victory as the Westport Tigers and Northeast Vikings face off in the first league matchup at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4 at Bryant (Southeast) Stadium. While both teams are 0-1, they both have good players that will have to be accounted for in the ballgame.

Vikings WR/DB Kawnn Parrish, the IL’s athlete of the week, will be eyed closely on both sides of the field after a two touchdown, 29-tackle performance against the Rams last week with a broken arm. Even opposing coaches took notice of his performance.

“I was impressed with what I saw of Parrish and when our teams meet, he will definitely have my attention,” said Lincoln Prep head coach Roger Franks. ‘That’s a special kid.”

The Vikings will have to make sure to account for the Tigers junior WR Victor Hoskins, who had seven catches for 113 yards against Odessa last week. He also led the Tigers with ten tackles.

The East Bears will finally get their season underway as they will host Rock Port at home at 7 p.m. Friday. Bears head coach Greg Smith is glad to finally get the season started for his players.

“We’ve had some players nicked up from practice, so the extra week we had to get our players ready helped us,” said Smith. “Even though most teams in the state have played already we’ll be competitive and try to pull out a win.”

In the last game, the Lincoln Prep Blue Tigers (0-1) travel down to Smithville Friday night to play. Kick off begins at 7 p.m.
