Title

Interscholastic League announces its Player of the Week awards for Oct. 9

Body

The Interscholastic League is proud to announce its Player of the Week awards for football and soccer.

The football recipient is Kawnn Parrish of the Northeast Vikings, the inaugural winner of the award. Parrish, a wide receiver-defensive back rushed for 85 yards, scored a two-point conversion, and blocked a field goal in the Vikings 16-6 homecoming win against Harmon last Thursday.

Parrish also added 12 tackles in leading his team to a 4-3 record this season.

"I'm thankful my coaches and teammates help put me in a situation where I could even win this award again," said Parrish. "This is cool to win it twice, but now I have to refocus and get ready for districts."

The East Bears soccer team had a rough week, losing three games in the Oak Park Tournament, but that didn't stop the Bears' Francisco Escutia from winning the top honors for soccer. Escutia has been instrumental in setting up goals for the Bears, notching 15 assists.

Kimble Anders, the Kansas City, Missouri School District (KCMSD) athletic director, will present the awards to the student-athletes on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
