The Kansas City, Missouri School District, in conjunction with the community, has developed the Missouri School Improvement Program Accountability and Turnaround Plan. The document provides a 24-month road map to address key issues outlined by evaluators from the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Spring 2008. The plan has seven objectives:

Objective 1 – The Board will set a clear vision, mission, goals and direction for the school district.

Objective 2 – The Board will attract, recruit, select, hire and retain a qualified superintendent committed to the execution of the Accountability Plan; provide appropriate governance oversight to assist the superintendent the Accountability Plan through ongoing dialogue, periodic performance evaluation, and strategic resource allocation.

Objective 3 – The Board of Education will adopt, implement, monitor and evaluate governance policies, procedures and systems that organize the Board and its work according to research-proven best practices for maximum student achievement.

Objective 4 – All students will demonstrate a minimum of two years academic growth as measured by the appropriate tool as a result of the development and implementation of a viable and guaranteed K-12 curriculum.

Objective 5 - All students will demonstrate a minimum of two years of academic growth as measured by the appropriate tool as a result of District-wide implementation of research-based curriculum.

Objective 6 – Data informs decisions at the student, classroom, building and District levels leading to improved student achievement and behavior.

Objective 7 – The advance questionnaire and focused interviews demonstrate all students feel safe and valued at school.

The Kansas City, Missouri School District's goal is to reach full accreditation by 2010. Our mission is to provide our students, faculty and the community with a solid plan that puts achievement first.

The Accountability Turnaround Plan is closely aligned with the new District's Mission and Vision Statement. To view the guiding statements, please click here.
