Athletics is such a big part of our society today. The Interscholastic League realizes the importance of athletics in shaping student’s lives, but also recognizes the secondary role it should play to academics. Athletic programs contribute significantly to preparing our students for becoming productive, contributing citizens of our community and society. The Interscholastic League is dedicated to developing minds, bodies, and futures.
The Interscholastic League (IL) of the Kansas City Missouri School District has been in existence since 1913. This league has had a great tradition of sports since its inception. The IL is currently comprised of seven high schools: Central, Lincoln College Prep, Paseo, Northeast, Southeast, Van Horn and Westport. The Athletic Department also organizes an intramural sports program for middle schools which include Central Middle, Lincoln Middle, Northeast Middle, Foreign Language Middle, Satchel Paige, ACE, Wesport Middle, and JA Rogers.
The mission of the Athletic Department is to promote sportsmanship and to provide the student/athlete organized and structured athletic activities that will help develop social skills, provide a spirit of pride, promote lifetime physical well being, and create a feeling of self worth while maximizing the achievement of educational goals.
