Overview
What is Community Education?
Community Education is a philosophy of life-long learning that engages schools, families and the broader community in a process designed to establish and meet educational and community goals.
The mission of the Kansas City Community Education Initiative is to create and support a nurturing educational environment through which children, families and other neighborhood residents can experience success.
The goal of the Kansas City Community Education Initiative is to assist schools, families and communities in enhancing the academic achievement and performance of students, families and community members through educational, vocational, recreational, cultural and enrichment offerings. These opportunities will allow individuals to:
-
focus on experiential learning activities in a variety of settings throughout the day and evening that relate to the environment in which students live;
-
use neighborhood adults as role models and learning resources;
-
encourage and provide life-long learning opportunities for neighborhood residents of all ages and abilities;
-
bring together resources of the School System and the community resources of other providers in Kansas City to create a learning environment, based on priorities and needs of the citizens of the community.
