Title

Former NBL player challenges District students: Never be absent!

Body

Former NBL (National Basketball League) player Kevin Washington challenge students again Wednesday, Oct. 7, with his message to “never be absent” from the business of learning. He will speak at 11 a.m. at Wendell Phillips Elementary.  At 2:30 p.m. he will address the students at Ladd Elementary.

Washington’s motivational talk is backed up with a challenge and fun rewards. Classes with perfect attendance for a whole month earn a pizza party, and individuals maintaining consistent or perfect attendance are eligible for a free drawing. Perfect attendance for a semester wins a scholarship to Washington’s basketball camp.

Washington retired from the National Basketball League (NBL), the premier association for the game in Australasia, to run his basketball camp. He is a spokesperson for the program Never Been Absent, developed by the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection.

The schedule for tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 7. 2009 is:

  • 11 a.m. - Wendell Phillips Elementary, 1619 E. 24th Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64108
  • 2:30 p.m. - Ladd Elementary, 3640 Benton Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64128

He has already spoken to students at Phillis Wheatley and Troost Elementary. Let’s see who wins the “never be absent” challenge at the end of the year!
